The design inspiration for this Appetiser comes from The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, a UNESCO World Heritage monument in Ravenna, in the region of Emilia-Romagna in Northern Italy.

This unassuming recycled brick building looks simple and unassuming from the outside. Upon entering the most splendid mosaic interior awaits. It is a moment takes your breath away with stunning mosaics in smalti and oro (mosaic gold) covering every surface above approx 8 feet, below which the walls are clad with marble. 

This design is inspired by one of the stars found on the ceiling and has been adapted to be slightly less complex and more accessible to our students.
