LEVEL 5 LANDSCAPE BANNER

LEVEL 5 : EXPLORING GENRE

PART B : LANDSCAPE

Mediating the Landscape Image in Mosaic invites students to explore the rich genre of landscape through theory and practice, with a focus on mosaic interpretation. The course begins by examining how landscape has been represented across visual art traditions and the unique ways mosaic artists have engaged with place.

Students will gain a foundational understanding of linear and aerial perspective, exploring how viewpoint, value, and chroma influence spatial depth and mood. Emphasis is placed on the development of visual literacy and conceptual thinking through drawing, painting, collage, digital media, and watercolour.

Participants will learn to mediate source imagery, translating their ideas into mosaic through thoughtful material selection. Exploring a range of mixed media and found objects, students are encouraged to experiment with texture, surface, and layering.

The course supports individual expression while grounding practice in compositional principles, encouraging personal responses to landscape that are both grounded and imaginative.
